Spirit of Labadi

Back to project page

Our wining design concept for the ‘Spirit of Labadi’ draws its inspiration from the captivating artistry of Ghanaian Bolga baskets, skillfully woven from bamboo. Just as gifted artisans deftly intertwine each strand to create captivating baskets, our pavilion embodies the essence of unity, cultural fusion, and creativity.

The architectural form of Spirit of Labadi pays homage to the natural shapes and intricate patterns found in Bolga baskets. Graceful, curvilinear structures weave together to craft an inviting and dynamic space, reminiscent of the seamless artistry found within the baskets. These flowing contours not only celebrate traditional craftsmanship but also beckon visitors to explore and immerse themselves in the pavilion’s artistic spirit.

At the heart of our sustainable design approach lies the use of bamboo – the very essence of Bolga baskets. By integrating bamboo panels, we celebrate the time-honored art of weaving while embracing the beauty of locally-sourced, natural materials. This choice embodies the values deeply rooted in Ghanaian culture, resourcefulness and environmental stewardship

The interwoven harmony the pavilion creates within the courtyard akins to the soul of a close-knit community, warmly welcoming both visitors and locals, fostering a sense of belonging and cultural exchange.

Central to our design is community engagement – seamlessly integrated into the fabric of the pavilion. The Interactive spaces the pavilion creates out of it’s unique flow encourages artists to share their craft with visitors, nurturing an environment of shared creativity. As artists and locals weave together their stories and perspectives, Spirit of Labadi emerges as a vibrant canvas for cross-cultural appreciation and understanding.

With bamboo as a symbol of sustainability and cultural exchange, the pavilion becomes an inspiring testament to artistic vision and responsible creativity. “Spirit of Labadi” stands proudly as a welcoming space, inviting visitors to partake in the tapestry of Ghana’s diverse culture and artistic wonders, uniting all who enter on a journey of shared inspiration.
